Trauma Informed Yoga Therapy Program2020-08-04T11:21:56-05:00

WE HAVE A FULLY ACCREDITED WEB-BASED (online) OPTION IN RESPONSE TO THE SOCIAL DISTANCING REQUIREMENTS.
NEW Training added!
We filled our online 2020 trainings so quickly that we added a new training! See below for details.

Please read all of the information below BEFORE applying or contacting us with questions. There is an exhaustive amount of information below. IF YOU ARE TOO BUSY TO READ THROUGH IT, please do not apply at this time. Our training requires a time commitment and dedication. If you are too busy, please consider joining us at a different time. We have a passionate, well-trained Collective of Facilitators and therefore our program has a lot of integrity – we have an obligation to our Collective and the institutions that trust our name to ensure a top level of professionalism.

Sundara Yoga Therapy’s Trauma Informed Yoga Therapy trainings are broken into distinct levels. Each level requires specific modules which are named after the elements – Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether. Our goal is to bring trauma informed Yoga Therapy disciplines to all manner of providers, whether they are new to their field, or are long standing practitioners. To this goal we offer three levels of certification. The higher the level, the more elements are required.

All Primary Faculty have achieved the highest level of experience and certification recognized in the Yoga Therapy and Yoga Teaching field; all are Certified Yoga Therapists with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYT) and Registered Experienced Yoga Teachers at the 500hr level with the Yoga Alliance (ERYT500). All faculty have vast experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma in many different settings.

CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING COHORTS. We will continue to add new cohorts as needed. If the days/times above do not work for your schedule, please EMAIL our registrar to request a day/time.

TIYT Trauma Informed Yoga Therapy training schedule

The online trainings listed above will be our last 2020 trainings.  We plan to continue to offer an online option each year for non-credit seeking students (i.e. attending for the certification/content, not for our accreditors CEUs); our accreditors may allow online attendance in the future (beyond social distancing allowances) – we will keep you posted as soon as we here.  If you have any questions, please email us HERE

All in-person trainings for 2020 have been cancelled.  Please view our online webinar based calendar. We start a new Level I – Earth Element each month.  We typically have a weekday and a weekend option, as well as an evening.  You may EMAIL our registrar to request day/time.

Please review the self-inquiry work and schedule options before registering.

There are four meetings that last 4.5 hours each. There are NO make-up hours available for any class and we do not record for you to view later.  Our accreditors require “live” participation on our Zoom meetings.
Please do not register if you are uncertain if you can attend and/or if you are unable to attend part or all of any of the sessions.

Before you fill out the application below, please read through the self-inquiry questions and meditate on them. If you do not have the time to do such an inquiry, please do not fill out the application – TIYT trainings require dedication and a time commitment; being too busy is an indication that you should consider joining us when you have more time in your schedule.

Self Inquiry #1

This training is not a trauma resolution training for participants – we expect participants to have a strong sense of self and an ability to self-regulate.

Do you feel you have the inner resources and have come far enough along in your own journey that you are able to let go of your personal narrative?

Some indications that this training is not ideal for you:

Do you educate or “help” others unsolicited?

Do you feel you have more knowledge than others?

Is it important to you that others know how much you know?

Self Inquiry #2

This field draws empathic people who want to help make a difference in other people’s lives; empathic people are vulnerable to secondary and vicarious trauma and may end up carrying an emotional burden instead of helping guide another person to work through their own journey.

Do you have a clear understanding of why you want to work with people who have experienced trauma?

Some indications that this training is not ideal for you:

Do you relate to wanting to stop someone’s pain and feel responsible for “fixing” someone’s life?

Do you do things for people that they should be doing themselves?

This type of enmeshment adds more levels of injury to both the client and the facilitator. It is important to do some self-inquiry on boundaries and enmeshment.

Self Inquiry #3

Privilege and power differentials are a major source of trauma for others around a person expressing one of both.

Do you understand privilege from a social equity perspective?

Some indications that this training is not ideal for you:

Do you get frustrated when you aren’t allowed to give your opinion?

If you do not feel like you contribute and/or participate in actions and other factors that sustain social injustice in some form.

If you cannot see a layer of privilege you may have regardless of your age, ethnicity, gender identity or education level.

Continuing Education Credits

All training participants receive a certificate of completion that lists the number of CEs offered for the training and can be submitted to IAYT, YA and other agencies. Participants will receive a certificate from Sundara Yoga Therapy upon completion of each level’s requirements and an Evaluation & feedback form. The certificates will be your proof of hours and completion required by CE accreditors.
