Faculty Bios

Genevieve Yellin, 500hr Yoga Therapist Genevieve Yellin, e-RYT, RYT500 PYT500; Integrative Yoga Therapist
Primary faculty member; IYT 200hr teacher training faculty member
I have been a student of yoga since 1994. I feel fortunate to have studied with many great teachers, from many different styles. I completed my 500hour Professional Yoga Therapist Certificate (PYT-RYT)) with Integrative Yoga Therapy, and am presently enrolled in my 1000hr PYT internship, studying with Joseph and Lilian LaPage, Beth Gibbs, and Maria KaliMa. Additional training in Functional Yoga Therapy with Maria KaliMa, Restorative Yoga with Judith Lasater, Anatomy Trains Myofacial studies with Tom Myers (KMI), Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, and Vipassana has added much depth to my own practice as well as informing my teaching. I am presently training for an Herbalist certification, and look forward to incorporating that knowledge base into my private therapy sessions. My background is varied; BS in biology, graduate studies in biochemistry; I spent many years as a biochemist in environmental research in the University system, but left to pursue an industrial design education with the Academy of Art SF. I opened a robotic design and manufacturing company (Z-Bot!) with my inventor husband, Bob. After several profound personal experiences and a passion for learning/teaching self-healing through a mind/body/spirit connection, I decided to dedicate all of my energy to a full-time exploration of this beautiful, ancient path called yoga. I am forever grateful for my "life teachers" that are closest to my heart: they are my loving husband Bob (Bear), 5 wonderful kids, supportive family, friends, and our amazing Sundara community-they teach me about life, love and happiness everday. I am honored to be a member of the IYT 200hr Yoga Teacher Training Faculty.

Cathy Harmon, E-RYT-500, PYT-500Cathy Harmon, E-RYT-500, PYT-500; Integrative Yoga Therapist
Primay Faculty Member; IYT 200hr teacher training faculty member
I have been a student of yoga since 1985 and a yoga teacher since 2001.  Having experienced the mind and body benefits of the practice, I teach yoga to help people feel good in their bodies. With this intention, classes with me are light-hearted and compassionate. I chose yoga teacher training inspired by the work of Vanda Scaravelli and in 2004 completed my 500-hr teaching certification from Namaste International.  I am honored to have trained with Irene Beer, the late Esther Myers and Diane Long, all of whom were Vanda's students. Numerous workshops with Judith Lasater and Mukunda Stiles deepened my knowledge of asana, pranayama, anatomy and the Yoga Sutras.  I completed Relax and Renew® training with Judith in 2008 and teach Restorative Yoga classes and workshops regularly.  In 2009, I certified as a 500-hr Professional Yoga Therapist from Integrative Yoga Therapy, and consider myself fortunate to have studied with Joseph and Lillian LePage, Beth Gibbs, and Maria KaliMa.  My interest in anatomy led me to pursue a further 100-hour certificate in Functional Yoga Therapy with Maria KaliMa.  I have long had an interest in healthy arts: prior to my yoga adventures I taught Lung Gung Fa Kung Fu and was an Instructor with Jackie Sorenson's Aerobic Dancing.  I hold a B.S. in Secondary Education and a Master's Degree in Reading Instruction and was a high school English teacher for many years. I am the lucky mom of two wonderful sons and proudly married since 1977.

Meg Brooker, MFA, RYT Meg Brooker, MFA, RYT
During the summer of 2002, I began my hatha yoga studies in New York City at the Iyengar Institute and at Movements Afoot. In the fall of 2004, I began to explore a vinyasa practice at the Inwood Peace Yoga Center, and I am grateful to director Michael von Stange for first encouraging me to pursue a yoga teacher training course. Upon relocating to Austin in 2006 for graduate studies at UT, I found the Austin yoga community to be warm and welcoming, and I completed a 200 hour teacher training program at Yoga Yoga in the fall of 2007. Since moving to Austin, my practice has consisted primarily of Anusara Yoga, and I recently finished the Anusara Immersion Part I with Christina Sell. My yoga classes emphasize optimal alignment, discovering a rhythmic relationship between breathing and moving, cultivating awareness of how mental patterning manifests in the physical body, and rekindling an innate sense of joy. In addition to my yoga studies, I danced original Isadora Duncan repertory as a member of Lori Belilove & Company (Isadora Duncan Dance Foundation) and as a guest artist with the Duncan Dance Collective. From 2002-2006, I trained intensively in Duncan technique with Lori Belilove, Cherlyn Smith, and Marie Carstens, studying historic Duncan dances as passed down through the lines of Anna, Irma, and Maria-Teresa Duncan. I have taught dance in New York City on the faculties of the School at Steps on Broadway and the Isadora Duncan Dance Foundation. In Texas, I have taught at UT Austin and held guest artist residences at Texas State and Northwest Vista College. I have shown my own choreography in Duncan technique in Austin, New York, and Sevastopol, Ukraine. In May 2009, I completed my MFA in Performance as Public Practice at UT, and I have presented scholarship on Duncan contemporary Florence Fleming Noyes for the Society of Dance History Scholars and the Congress on Research in Dance.

Jeremiah Wallace, RYT Jeremiah Wallace, RYT, Anusara-Inspired™
Originally from a suburb town of Corpus Christi, TX, I found yoga early in 2004 by taking a kinesiology course in college, and just never quit. Even after the course, I continued to practice on my own at home, taking the occasional class at school, and referring to my first yoga text book (Yoga the Iyengar Way) for little tips. Upon moving to Austin in 2006, I began practicing at a local studio and instantly found that there was a whole new exciting depth to yoga that I had never felt before. That's when the love affair began, the addiction really set in, and my life simply changed forever. I began teacher training in early 2007 and has been teaching ever since. My roots are in the Iyengar method- I still call upon the method to inform my practice, study, and teaching. I am pursuing an Anusara certification, mostly under the guidance of Christina Sell. I find this practice to be a constant process of learning and understanding. It is for the sake of living life more knowledgably, harmoniously, and happily with oneself and others. My classes are geared toward personal discovery, generally through rigorous physical discipline and attention with a little bit of silliness thrown in. I have an AA in Theatre and am actively pursuing my BS in Radio/Television/Film from the University of Texas at Austin.
