Class Descriptions:
Anusara™ Inspired Yoga: Anusara (a-nu-sar-a), means “flowing with Grace,” “flowing with Nature,” “following your heart.” Anusara yoga is a school of hatha yoga which unifies a life-affirming Tantric philosophy of intrinsic goodness with Universal Principles of Alignment, with a strong emphasis on community.*Liz Belile and Jeremiah Wallace are Anusara-Inspired™ Teachers.
Art of Self-healing: Various self-healing modalities will be employed to bring clients to the point of relaxation, and bring about an understanding of the bodies innate ability to heal itself. Presently, we offer Sound healing: a Didgeridoo event, with Steve Daniel on the last Friday of every month.
Chair/Gentle Yoga: Chair yoga is a class structured for practitioners that have physical challenges that prevents an easy transition from floor to standing. The class focuses on gently opening the body and strengthening the muscles surrounding the joints, as well as a strong emphasis on breathwork. Suitable for joint replacement clients and post surgery/injury (out of the acute phase and with healthcare practitioners approval).
Flexibility Focus: This is a class for inflexible people. Years of playing sports, running, or working hard without stretching sufficiently, causes muscles to tighten and shorten, making the body prone to injury. Shortened muscles put stress on the joints, leading to chronic neck, shoulder, back, hip and knee issues. Very tight muscles are difficult to open without injury; this 1 hour, therapeutic class focuses on lengthening the muscles slowly and safely
Gentle Yoga: All levels welcome. No experience necessary. Class with a gentler approach to yoga asana. "Gentle" does not equal "easy"; the classes focus on strengthening and opening the body without vigorous activity. Extra time and consideration are given to modifications to suit whatever you bring to the mat.
Kids' Yoga Series: Our kids classes utilize yoga postures, breathwork, meditation and relaxation techniques that are appropriate for their age group and developing bodies. Yoga for kids has been shown to improve the ability to focus and concentrate as well as teach kids self-control and self soothing techniques. Yoga for kids promotes flexibility, strength, self-acceptance, coordination, postive thinking, and imagination. Preregistration is required. Fall schedule TBA
Lunch Hatha: This is a 50 minute, multi-level Hatha class. Some experience is preferred, but not required if active. Modifications will be given to make the practice more vigorous, or less vigorous to fit your needs.
ModerateYoga: Experience required or permission from a Sundara Instructor. Classes may have a specific focus on core, hip openers, shoulders, etc.
Nia: (Excerpt from www.experiencenia.com): Nia is a dynamic cardiovascular workout that stimulates and integrates your body/mind/spirit and leaves you feeling recharged, rejuvenated and fully alive. Nia is for all levels, from the person who wants to start moving their body to the avid fitness buff. Each class has options for all students, from beginner to advanced.
Nia 5-Stages: Nia 5 Stages uses five simple movements that come from the body's natural process of organic development and growth. When the body moves through the 5 Stages, Body, Mind, Emotions, and Spirit naturally realign, leaving you feeling a greater sense of wholeness and well-being. When used as a practice, these stages lead to changes that improve one's physical comfort, ability to move efficiently, and improvement in whole body functioning and posture. Daily practicing The 5 Stages is one of the most powerful things you can do for your body.
Pilates: Pilates Mat Class is an excellent way to improve breathing, body awareness and posture. The exercises are non-impact and focus on strengthening the muscles of the midsection and back also known as the core. The exercises are coordinated with the breath to help focus the mind while balancing muscle flexibility and strength. Pilates will get you in shape for living life! The PIlates seires are run by Raquel Currah, a physical therapist and certitfied Pilates instructor. Please contact Raquel directly for registration information: rcurrah@gmail.com
Restorative Yoga: Yoga's antidote for stress. Very slow moving, emphasis is on relaxation and deep stretching. With the use of props, the body is gently opened while fully supported. Breathwork and meditation are integral parts of our Restorative classes. This class is beginner friendly in the physical sense, but we do not recommend you try Restorative as a beginning class, since its focus is different than regular asana practice. Quieting the mind is the focus, beginners are welcome.
Tai Chi Chih: 19 elegant but simple, easy-to-learn movements and one pose, originated for Americans by T’ai Chi Ch’uan master, Justin Stone, uses repeated movements to generate and store chi, a universal vital energy. Not a martial art or form of exercise. Movement meditation is intended to create a single-point, meditative focus, sense of well-being, and awareness of personal presence. Take bliss into the world. No previous experience or special clothes, shoes, or mats. Performed seated or standing. Once learned, practice at home. Immediate and cumulative physical, mental, and emotional benefits. Feel chi flowing from first few movements. This class is offered in a series and runs periodically. Contact the studio for information on the next scheduled series.
Taichi Qigong: Derived from thousands of years of Chinese experience in the healing arts and sciences, Tai Chi Qi Gong is a powerful way of healing and staying healthy. In this class you are introduced step-by-step to the “Eighteen Movements,” a form perfected by Master Tseng that uses Tai Chi’s soft and graceful movements in combination with exercises for the mind. By encouraging better balance, coordination and concentration, mind and body flow together to improve Qi (life force). This set is simple to learn, increases Qi (life force), helps blood circulation, stretches tendons, ligaments and joints, strengthens the immune system and speeds recovery. This class is offered in a series and runs periodically. Contact the studio for information on the next scheduled series.
Vigorous Yoga: Experience required and approval of a Sundara teacher (please take a Moderate class first). More challenging yoga asana are explored; arm balances, inversion, deep hip openings and/or vigorous sequencing.
